Cumbria-based accountancy firm Lamont Pridmore has announced its continued support for the next generation of business leaders by sponsoring the Economics and Business Prize at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School (QEGS).

The 2024 award has been presented to Ben Ellis, who despite facing significant challenges, including recovering from a serious injury in the summer of 2023, achieved a Grade B in A-level Economics.

Kate Judge, head of economics at QEGS, said: “Ben’s ability to persevere through adversity was remarkable. Even after missing a significant amount of school, he demonstrated unwavering dedication, contributing enthusiastically to class debates and group presentations. His success is a direct reflection of his hard work and character.”

Ellis has since started an accountancy apprenticeship with Dodd and Co. in Penrith, taking the first step in what promises to be a successful career in the profession.

Trevor Iredale, independent financial adviser at Lamont Pridmore, presented the award to Ellis ahead of the QEGS A-Level Awards celebration on 19 December, held at Penrith Methodist Church.

Iredale said: “We congratulate Ben on this well-deserved recognition. His perseverance is truly inspiring, and we are delighted to celebrate his achievement.

“At Lamont Pridmore, we are committed to supporting the development of talented young people in our community, helping them overcome challenges and realise their full potential. Through our partnerships with Queen Elizabeth Grammar School and other local schools, we aim to inspire and develop the next generation of business and economics leaders, ensuring a bright future for the local professional services sector.”
