KPMG has announced that Gary Wingrove has been elected as the firm’s next global chairman and chief executive officer to lead the professional services network for a four-year term.
Wingrove, who currently serves as global chief operating officer, will succeed Bill Thomas on 1 October 2026 following a vote by the global council.
The incoming leader previously served as chief executive of KPMG Australia between 2013 and 2021. During his eight-year tenure, he doubled the firm’s revenue.
As global chief operating officer, Wingrove managed the adoption of artificial intelligence solutions and oversaw the growth of the KPMG Delivery Network across 140 countries.
Thomas has held the top role since 2017. Under his leadership, global revenues increased by 55% and the total workforce expanded to more than 276,000 people.
The outgoing chairman oversaw a multi-billion dollar investment programme and formed technology alliances with companies including Microsoft, Google Cloud, SAP, Oracle and ServiceNow.
Financial results for 2025 showed a 5.1% rise in global revenues, with tax and legal services growing by 7.5% and audit services increasing by 6%.
Wingrove is a chartered accountant and a fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia. He has spent more than 25 years at the organisation.
Thomas said: “It’s been an honour to lead KPMG over the last nine years, and I’m so proud of the impact the team around the globe has made for our clients, our people and society.
“I’ve had the privilege of working with Gary for more than 20 years. He is an outstanding leader, and I’m confident that under his leadership, KPMG will reach new heights in the years to come.”
Wingrove added: “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead our talented colleagues around the world and help create an environment where they can thrive. KPMG is a people-first business – enabled by technology, strengthened by our culture and unified by a global network of member firms that enables our teams to bring the best of KPMG’s expertise to clients wherever they are.”
