HB&O has announced the appointments and internal promotions of 12 members of staff across the Midlands in Birmingham, Coventry and Leamington.

The business has promoted head of accounts in Coventry Mathew Neal after a series of changes across its audit and accounts teams. Neal, who joined the firm in 2003, will take a senior management role in audit and accounts.

The Coventry accounts team, based at Severn Stars House, comprises 15 chartered accountants, business growth consultants and financial advisers. They form part of a 100-strong workforce across the company.

Seven further members of the audit and accounts department have also been promoted. Senior manager Jack Dunne, who joined in 2023, progressed after taking part in the Emerging Leaders Programme run by DFK International, an association of independent accounting, tax and business advisory firms.

Accounts senior Tim Smith, who joined in 2021, advanced after achieving chartered accountant status from the ACA. Meanwhile accounts semi senior Sophie Butteriss moved up following completion of her final ACCA exams to become a chartered accountant.

Four trainee accountants – Anu Muthulingam, Lewis Hogan, Neelam Marwaha and Sophie French – have likewise advanced to a more senior grade within the firm’s apprentice trainee accountant programme.

Promotions have also been made in the company’s virtual finance office team. VFO senior manager Matt King and manager Louis Scallon, both from Coventry, have progressed to more senior roles.

In the tax team, Chris Sudbury, from Leamington, and Thomas Callis, from Atherstone, have both moved up to higher grades.

Mark Ashfield, managing director of HB&O, said: “We continue to see strong growth across the business, and it is our brilliant team that is driving that behind the scenes. Having excellent people will be crucial as we continue to pursue ambitious growth across Coventry, Warwickshire, Birmingham and the wider West Midlands.

“These promotions are recognition of the great work being delivered by colleagues across the business and how they continue to deliver outstanding support for clients while embodying our core values as a business.”
