Evelyn Partners has announced a merger with chartered financial planning firm Scholes and Brown, which will see the firm’s team joining Evelyn Partners’ Newcastle office.

As part of the move, Scholes and Brown directors, Philip Brown and Bradley Thompson, will become part of Evelyn Partners’ expanding Newcastle office, which is headed-up by managing partner David Smith.

Four other staff members will also join, bringing financial planning and administration experience to the Newcastle office.

The team joins Evelyn Partners through its succession programme which was launched last year to give financial advisers approaching retirement an opportunity to migrate their clients to a new, long-term home with a wealth management proposition.

The Scholes and Brown team, which is currently based at Rotterdam House, Quayside, in Newcastle, has provided financial planning and investment management services to personal and corporate clients since 2003.

Richard Dawes, head of Strategic Partnerships at Evelyn Partners, said: “After only launching our succession programme at the end of last year, it is great to be able to welcome the team from Scholes and Brown as the second firm to join our Newcastle office through the scheme.

“Scholes and Brown’s clients will continue to receive a high-quality, personalised service while also benefiting from the investments we have made in our proposition and technology. The deal also demonstrates our commitment to continue growing in the North East.”

Bradley Thompson, director of Scholes and Brown, added: “Our priority during the past 20 years has always been to put the interests of our valued clients first, second and last. However, the volume of regulation that has weighed upon small, independent firms during this time has forced many to team up with bigger, better resourced partners.

“We have been approached by many large wealth managers over the years, but we were impressed by the way Evelyn Partners has approached the integration of our business.”
