Accountancy firm BHP has appointed senior valuations expert Rob Sansom as a director within its financial reporting, advisory and valuations team.

Sansom joins the business from accountancy firm Saffery, where he specialised in commercial and tax valuations, purchase price allocations, and option pricing methodologies. He has extensive experience supporting small and medium-sized enterprises alongside audit teams on complex accounting issues.

The appointment comes during a period of growth for the division, which has expanded to include 10 specialists operating nationally since its launch in 2023. BHP is part of the Sumer Group network.

BHP said the expansion of the team has been driven by sustained client demand as businesses navigate evolving valuation and regulatory reporting challenges.

Sansom said: “BHP’s Financial Reporting, Advisory and Valuations team has a fantastic reputation in the marketplace and the opportunity to lead on client delivery within such a forward thinking and progressive firm was a natural next step for me.

“What really attracted me was the opportunity to focus day-to-day on supporting SMEs in the specialist valuation and accounting areas in which I have built expertise, whilst continuing to learn and progress my own development amongst a knowledgeable and supportive group of colleagues and peers.”

Alex Hird, partner in financial reporting, advisory and valuations at BHP, added: “Over the last few years, we’ve seen high inflation, shifting risk profiles and tighter audit requirements all converge at once, with SMEs and their finance teams being asked to make more complex judgements on valuation and financial reporting.

“On top of this, important changes to accounting standards that will have a real impact on reported numbers are set to be felt over the coming period. Rob’s experience working at a national level across all valuation matters means he is ideally placed to help our clients navigate these changes.”

Hird continued: “Rob’s quality and expertise further enhances our Financial Reporting, Advisory and Valuations capability and sets BHP apart nationally within this specialism.”
