Buzzacott has appointed Peter Chapman as its new managing partner, who will take over the position on 1 October 2026.

Chapman succeeds Tony Hopson, who is stepping down from the role after eight years. Hopson will remain at the firm as a partner in the US/UK tax team.

Chapman has spent 15 years at the firm, and currently leads the corporate assurance team and serves on the executive committee. He also acts as the firm’s audit compliance principal and practice assurance principal.

According to the firm, his appointment follows a period of consolidation within the professional services market.

Hopson said: “I am delighted to be handing over to Peter. He has made an outstanding contribution to the firm over many years, knows the business extremely well and has been closely involved in many of the decisions that have shaped where we are today.

“He takes on the role at an important moment for the profession. While many firms are choosing to consolidate, we remain committed to staying independent. It allows us to make our own decisions, preserve what matters most about the firm and to keep taking a long-term view. Peter is the right person to lead us through the next phase of our development.”

Chapman added: “It is a privilege to take on the role of managing partner at Buzzacott. Our firm has a strong culture and a clear sense of itself and I’ve been fortunate to be part of its development for many years.

“As a firm with a history of more than 100 years, our independence is an important part of who we are. It gives us the freedom to shape our future in the way that best serves the firm’s partners, staff and our clients. I look forward to building on the strong foundations already in place and guiding the firm through its next phase of growth.”
