George Hay Chartered Accountants has appointed Jamie Spender as tax director to oversee private client advisory services across its Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, and Cambridgeshire office network.

Spender, a chartered certified accountant and chartered tax adviser, joins the firm from a mid-tier national practice.

He specialises in personal tax matters, inheritance tax (IHT) planning, and the structuring of family investment companies and trusts.

In his new role, Spender will work alongside tax partner Barry Jefferd to provide technical support to sole traders, SMEs, and complex family estates.

His experience includes advising business owners on tax implications during exit strategies and succession planning.

The appointment follows a period of growth for the independent firm. George Hay currently operates three regional hubs, providing accountancy and tax advisory services to clients throughout the East of England.

Spender said: “I am delighted to join George Hay as tax director, and to be in a position to use my skill and experience to bolster the firm’s tax advisory offering for both existing and new clients.

“At a time when the tax framework is constantly evolving and tax regimes are changing much more regularly than in the past, it is essential that SME business owners in particular are giving careful consideration to tax and succession planning.”

Martin Williams, joint managing partner, added: “We are delighted to welcome Jamie to the firm. His extensive experience and client-centric approach make him an excellent fit and will further strengthen our private client offering, giving our clients confidence to navigate an increasingly sophisticated tax landscape.”
