Sumer Northern Ireland has promoted three senior staff members across its innovation tax relief and forensic accounting departments following a period of sustained growth.

The Belfast-based firm has increased its workforce to 120 employees since joining the Sumer Group two years ago. This represents a 20% increase in total headcount for the practice.

The firm’s innovation tax relief team currently leads the wider group’s delivery of research and development (R&D) and patent box services across the UK.

As part of the expansion, innovation tax relief specialist Phil Chambers has been appointed associate partner. He previously worked across the pharmaceutical, aerospace and software sectors.

Adam Stuart has been also promoted to senior manager within the same team. Stuart will focus on providing specialist expertise to clients operating in software and information technology.

In the forensic accounting department, Aoife Morgan has been promoted to associate partner. Morgan has spent four years with the firm and is a fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland.

Morgan will specialise in the quantification of claims regarding loss of earnings and medical negligence. The firm stated the appointments are a response to increasing demand for specialist advisory services.

Managing partner Brian Clerkin said: “These appointments are a clear reflection of the calibre of our staff, alongside the sustained growth we are seeing across the firm and increasing demand from the marketplace.

“At Sumer Northern Ireland we place great emphasis on nurturing talent and creating clear pathways for progression. We’re committed to investing in our people and in supporting them to develop deep technical expertise while building long-term careers within the firm.Strengthening our innovation tax relief and forensic accounting teams ensures that we are well placed to support ambitious companies across Northern Ireland and the UK as they expand, innovate and navigate an ever-changing business and regulatory landscape.”
