Moore Global Corporate Finance (GCF) has appointed John Cowie as its new chair, succeeding Philippe Craninx, managing partner at Moore Belgium, who is stepping down from the position.

Cowie currently serves as a corporate finance partner at Moore Kingston Smith and has been with the firm since 2015.

A chartered accountant, his previous experience includes serving as director of corporate finance at a UK advisory and broking house for the Alternative Investment Market (AIM).

In his new role, Cowie will oversee a deal advisory group that now consists of 12 firms following the recent addition of members from Australia and Kazakhstan.

GCF completes approximately 500 projects annually with a combined value of approximately $5bn (£3.65bn).

As chair, Cowie will lead a steering committee that includes Wannes Gheysen of Moore Belgium, Martin de Jong of Crossminds NL, and Giancarlo Attolini of Moore ASZ. John Stanford, European regional director of Moore Global, will act as an adviser to the committee.

The group stated that its future growth strategy includes expansion across the US, Southern Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Management confirmed the focus will remain on mid-market transactions and cross-border mergers and acquisitions.

Cowie said: “I’m grateful to Philippe for all he’s achieved. It was his vision to create GCF and foster true collaboration among our member firms, and I’m honoured to take on the role of chair at such an exciting time for the network.

“GCF’s entrepreneurial spirit, specialist expertise and international reach create a powerful platform for delivering cross‑border capabilities to our clients. I look forward to working with our talented member firms and the Steering Committee to build on this momentum, strengthen our global presence, and continue delivering outstanding results.”

Craninx added: “It’s been a pleasure to team up with so many highly talented corporate finance experts around Moore Global. Together, we’ve created and shaped GCF into the dedicated and effective cross-border M&A advisory group it is today.

“I’m very happy that John is taking on the role of chair. Not only is he an experienced corporate finance professional with vision and drive, he’s also a good person and someone you can rely on with confidence.”
