AMS Group has announced the appointment of Michael McAllister as partner and head of payroll and employment taxes as it expands its Aberdeen headquarters.

News comes after the firm established a standalone payroll, employment tax and global mobility division to meet increasing regulatory demand and a focus on workforce strategy.

McAllister joins the firm from Johnston Carmichael, where he led the payroll services team. He has more than a decade of experience in the sector, having held senior positions at RSM and Mazars after starting his career at Scott-Moncrieff.

In his new role, McAllister will lead the national service line while supporting the firm’s investment in Scotland

Raymond Ford also joins the firm from Johnston Carmichael as senior manager for payroll and employment tax, having previously worked in financial services at Lloyds Banking Group.

The new division was previously part of the firm’s wider accounting services. It will now focus on compliant delivery and advisory support for clients across the UK. McAllister is a member of the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals and a lecturer at the Payroll Centre.

Steven Fraser, regional managing partner at AMS Group, said: “Michael and Raymond’s appointments reinforce our long-term commitment to Scotland. Michael brings deep technical expertise, strong leadership and a real understanding of Scotland’s business landscape, which will be invaluable as we continue to grow our Aberdeen headquarters and expand our advisory-led services.”

McAllister added: “Having worked across Scotland throughout my career – from the Central Belt to the north and north-east – it’s particularly rewarding to join a firm that is investing so strongly in the region and positioning Scotland at the heart of its growth strategy.

“AMS Group’s progressive approach to technology, and its investment in real-time data and digital reporting, will allow us to go even further by giving clients access to live insights through intuitive dashboards and visual reporting, creating a truly market-leading experience.”
