KPMG has announced the appointment of Jo Thomson to the role of senior partner in its Edinburgh office, where she will oversee a team of more than 400 people and strengthen the firm’s engagement with the city’s business community.
Based at KPMG’s Saltire Court office, Thomson will also take on the role of public sector lead for Scotland. She will be responsible for expanding the firm’s work with public bodies across the country, particularly in areas of tax, audit and advisory, as they adapt to changing policy and reform priorities.
Having been with KPMG for more than six years, Thomson succeeds Arleen Arnott in leading the Edinburgh office. She specialises in large-scale transformation consulting for organisations seeking to improve service delivery.
Thomson said: “It’s a real privilege to be leading our Edinburgh office. Taking on this role marks an important milestone in my career. From graduating at the Usher Hall to now leading an office just next door, it really feels like coming full circle.
“My mantra for this first year is to listen, learn and really understand what is unique about Scotland, while also bringing a fresh perspective and the benefit of my wider experience.”
Her appointment comes as KPMG expands its presence in the capital. Stuart Thomson has rejoined the firm from accountancy advisory business Johnston Carmichael as corporate tax advisory and compliance partner.
He will focus on advising family-owned and private equity-backed businesses, helping clients manage compliance, safeguard wealth and plan for long-term growth. With more than 25 years of experience in tax, he previously worked for KPMG in Scotland before joining Johnston Carmichael.
Vishal Chopra, Scotland senior partner at KPMG, added: “[The appointments] bring strong experience that will enhance our presence in Edinburgh. Their contribution will support our clients, strengthen relationships and help Scotland’s organisations to achieve their ambitions.”
