Independent accountancy firm Wbg has set out plans to double its fee income to £30m within three years and reach £50m within five, supported by increased investment in recruitment and career development.

The firm has doubled its trainee intake this year and recorded its highest number of promotions across all levels, from trainee to partner.

It has also made a series of senior appointments, including former Tesco Bank chief executive Benny Higgins as chair and Garry Clarke, formerly finance director and chief operating officer at Localist, as chief financial officer.

According to Wbg, recruitment has also focused on senior hires to “strengthen core service lines and expand the firm’s reach in key regions”.

It also revealed that further appointments were expected in the coming months.

Victoria Kirkhope, partner and head of people and culture at Wbg, said that investment in talent was “central to the firm’s growth ambitions”.

She added: “The changes we have put in place mean Wbg has evolved into a launchpad for ambitious careers. We are identifying key talent at all levels from school leavers to senior executives who will see Wbg as the key step in their career journey. We’re very excited about the future and the talented individuals that will help us deliver what comes next.”
