Quantuma has provided lead advisory services on the sale of Malaysian-based U-Sonics Power Cone to Poyun Electronics.

Led by managing director Mark Lucas and director George Jackson, the Quantuma team provided sell-side advice and full transaction support to the shareholders of U-Sonics.

Established in 1999 in Sungai Petani, Malaysia, U-Sonics Power Cone (U-Sonics) is a manufacturer of bespoke professional loudspeaker components.

Utilising a broad range of unique formulas and led by their range of paper cones, U-Sonics’ components are well regarded in the professional and guitar markets and these components are sold to a global customer base.

Meanwhile, Poyun Electronics (Poyun) is a manufacturer of voice coils, dome diaphragms, and transducer soft parts, with a footprint in both China and Vietnam.

The investment into U-Sonics represents Poyun’s continued commitment and efforts to expand its speaker component manufacturing capabilities and product offering for its customers.

Quantuma managing director Mark Lucas, director George Jackson and manager Tom Lucas led the sales process for U-Sonics on behalf of the shareholders, using a hands-on approach to an international and cross-border deal.

Working with Stephenson Harwood, who provided legal advice, the Quantuma team advised the shareholders on the business plan and market position and undertook a dual track strategic marketing process.

This generated significant interest from both financial and trade investors and ultimately identified Poyun Electronics as the preferred bidder.

Tony Hewitt, director at U-Sonics Power Cone, said: “Mark, George and Tom provided brilliant advice throughout each stage of the process and gave outstanding support, whether that was from the UK or Malaysia. Together we found the right home for U-Sonics to continue providing the best quality speaker components and we thank the Quantuma team for helping us get it over the line.”

Lucas added: “In an efficient and driven process working with the shareholders of U-Sonics, we found an excellent funding partner in Poyun Electronics. As a partner, Poyun provides U-Sonics with the tools it needs to strengthen and take the business forward. We are delighted that we were able to arrange this match and look forward to hearing news of the future growth of the business in the coming years.”
