With over 20 years experience at the firm, and more than 17 years working in healthcare, he brings a wealth of experience specialising in financial improvement.

He has worked on some of the highest profile financial turnaround projects in the NHS, including Cambridge Universities Hospital and Kings College Hospitals, as well as undertaking three secondments into NHS organisations as interim CFO and turnaround director, including at Cambridge and Kings.

He has also worked with nearly 150 NHS organisations, including acute hospitals, and foundation, community and mental health trusts, as well as commissioners and regulators Monitor, NHSE and the Department of Health.

Alexander has worked with management teams and boards to deliver strategic advisory, including financial governance, mergers and board development reviews.

He brings a personal passion for healthcare, and in addition to his leadership role is a one of PwC’s partner mental health advocates and was the partner sponsor for the firm’s participation in Movember – an annual event during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues.

Commenting on his appointment, Alexander said: “I am extremely excited to be leading such a diverse and experienced health team which shares a passion for supporting clients to deliver sustained improvements for their patients, staff and wider communities at a time of significant financial and operational pressures.

“The NHS is seeing unprecedented transformation and digital adoption, and we’re committed to supporting our clients to navigate these challenges and solve important problems.”

Rachel Taylor, government and health industries leader at PwC, added: “Iain brings fantastic knowledge and experience of the healthcare sector and an unwavering passion and commitment to lead our healthcare practice.

“The nation’s health has such a pivotal influence on so many aspects of society, from a healthy workforce driving economic growth, to AI improving access to healthcare and addressing inequalities, it is a critical time to be supporting clients with the transformation of health services.”
