Brearley and Co celebrates 40th anniversary

Yorkshire-based accountants Brearley and Co marked its 40th anniversary last month with a dinner at the New York Football Stadium.

The dinner, which was attended by friends, partners and clients, also raised a total of £3k for Rise Rotherham with the help of generous donations on the night. 

Founded by Giles Brearley in 1984 in a single room, it now operates office spaces in Mexborough, Dinnington, Barnsley, Doncaster, and Chapeltown. 

For the 40th anniversary, all staff from all offices were invited to celebrate with a three-course dinner, games, and entertainment from two special guests inspired by the TV series ‘The Office’.

Allan Cotton, director at Brearley and Co, said: “Looking back when I started at Brearley and Co 22 years ago, it’s amazing to see how much the company has grown. Multiple offices, sizeable increases in staff numbers and the range of services we provide.

“What hasn’t changed is our commitment to our clients in providing a high-quality service. We have always been proud of the fact that whether the business be big or small, we give them the same level of service, and long may that continue.”

Mark Smallman, the managing director of Brearley and Co, said: “Having joined Brearley and Co in 1987 on the Youth Training Scheme (YTS), the journey to senior partner has been enjoyable.

“Meeting clients and listening to them talk about their business inspires me. We have so many great clients who we work with. The greatest reward is watching our team develop. Training them, trusting them and empowering them provides me with great satisfaction.” 

He added: “It was a pleasure to host clients that we have worked with for most of our 40 years and their loyalty to us is humbling. To see so many individuals join our celebrations made the night enjoyable. We look forward to adding value to all our clients in the coming years.”
