Accountancy firm BK Plus has expanded its presence in the north east with the acquisition of Read Milburn, a North Shields-based practice.
Read Milburn, known for its work with businesses and charities in the region, will join BK Plus’s existing team in Jesmond, Newcastle, over the coming months.
The move will create a larger regional hub serving small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The acquisition forms part of BK Plus’s ongoing national expansion. The firm has grown from a single office to 30 locations in four years, with more than 600 staff across the UK, including over 140 in Scotland.
Read Milburn provides services in accounting, taxation, payroll and company secretarial support, with particular experience in the voluntary sector.
Its clients will now have access to BK Plus’s wider range of services, including corporate finance, specialist tax planning and business advisory support.
According to BK Plus, its growth strategy aims to combine local expertise with national resources, enabling SMEs in both urban and rural areas to access tailored support.
Nick Liley, partner at Read Milburn, said: “Our clients have trusted us for years because we know their businesses inside out. Joining BK Plus means we can keep delivering the same personal service but with the added strength of a national firm behind us. It opens up new opportunities for our clients and our team.”
Dawn Walton, partner at BK Plus, added: “Read Milburn is exactly the type of firm we want to work with. They have great relationships with their clients, they know their region, and they deliver the kind of advice that makes a real difference to business owners.”
