Berwick-based firm, Greaves West and Ayre, has announced the promotions of Joseph Findlay and Matthew Taylor to partner roles, marking a joint milestone for the pair who joined in 2019.

Findlay holds an integrated master’s degree in civil engineering from Heriot-Watt University and qualified as a chartered accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) in 2022. He also holds a diploma in regulated financial planning and a certificate in discretionary investment management from the Chartered Insurance Institute.

His work spans tax planning, including succession and inheritance tax, as well as capital gains and income tax planning. He also advises owner-managed businesses, individuals and charities across a range of general practice matters.

Findlay said: “Having set out to become a chartered accountant following university, my goal has always been to assist local businesses and individuals which Greaves West and Ayre has been doing successfully for over 100 years. I am delighted to be joining the partnership and look forward to contributing further to both the firm, and the wider business community.”

Meanwhile, Taylor graduated with a degree in mathematics from Lancaster University and later qualified as a chartered accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) in 2022.

He works in the tax department, specialising in compliance, tax planning and financial forecasting. He has recently expanded his focus to include business restructuring and also advises on inheritance tax, estate planning, lifetime gifting and trust management.

Taylor said: “I joined Greaves West and Ayre because I wanted to assist clients with all aspects of accountancy, tax planning and business consultancy which this firm offers. I have enjoyed supporting the partners in advising our clients and I am looking forward to taking the next step in my career and being a direct point of contact for our clients and their businesses.”

Colin Frame, partner at Greaves West and Ayre, added: “Joseph and Matthew are great examples of our approach to recruiting and training. Both of them joined the firm as trainees, and through their hard work, with support from our wider team, they have earned this promotion. As partners, they will continue their professional development for many years. I wish them many congratulations.”
