Stratford Hamilton and James Sleight from the advisory team at PKF Littlejohn have been appointed as joint liquidators of It’s OK Limited (It’s OK).Their appointment follows an investigation by the ICO which saw them issue a monetary penalty notice (MPN) of £200,000 and present a winding up petition to the company.

It’s OK was a nationwide appliance service and repair company who supplied white goods insurance.

During the course of 2019 and 2020, the business made 2,578,543 unsolicited direct marketing calls of which 1,752,149 were made to individuals who were registered with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS), in what was a “sustained and exploitative campaign”.

These calls, made over an 11-month period, represented an average of over three calls every minute. Under PECR 2003 (Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003), making live marketing calls to individuals registered with the TPS is prohibited, unless they have “explicitly consented to receiving such calls from a specific organisation”.

Some complaints received suggested that It’s OK attempted to mislead people about their white goods warranties, encouraging unnecessary payments.

Additionally, investigations have revealed that elderly individuals were specifically targeted with high-pressure sales tactics.
