Grant Thornton has announced that Stephen Wyborn has been appointed as director for the group’s Cambridge-based audit team.

Wyborn will join the leadership team overseeing the firm’s Cambridgeshire audit practice with a remit focused on audit quality and client service.

Originally from Yorkshire, he has been based in the region for 25 years since graduating from Robinson College, Cambridge.

The appointment is the latest senior addition to Grant Thornton’s expanding Cambridge office, following the recruitment of corporate finance Partner Mike Tillson in January.

In the last six months the firm has created 30 new roles across East Anglia, increasing its headcount to 123 in the region.

Commenting on his new role, Wyborn said: “Despite the disruption of the last year, Cambridgeshire’s business community has proven itself remarkably resilient, with activity in the mid-market in particular pushing on unabated as new businesses form and scale-ups continue to raise growth capital.”

James Brown, partner and practice leader at Grant Thornton in the region, added: “Stephen brings over twenty years of expertise and will add great value to our growing team.

“Throughout one of the more volatile periods I can remember, our focus on maintaining a supportive and ambitious workplace culture has continued to attract top talent, as we grow our presence in Cambridge and across the east of England.”
