Gary Ashford has been appointed to serve as the new vice president of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT), as of 17 November 2020.
The tax partner at Harbottle and Lewis is a long-standing council member of the CIOT and was previously chairman of the CIOT Management of Taxes subcommittee.
He will also continue his role within CFE Tax Advisors Europe, where he represents the CIOT and sits as vice president.
Ashford said: “I am honoured to join the CIOT presidential team. The Institute, as the pre-eminent professional body for taxation, has a leading role to play in the changes now taking place in tax administration and policy.
“In particular I am keen to help our members and the public in preparing for and integrating themselves into the developing digital economy, which has taken on even more prominence with COVID-19.”
He added: “Additionally, I am keen to contribute to the debate on tax reform, including the transition towards sustainable taxation, as the country and the world look towards and commit to a net zero carbon future.”
