He will also continue his role within CFE Tax Advisors Europe, where he represents the CIOT and sits as vice president.
Ashford said: “I am honoured to join the CIOT presidential team. The Institute, as the pre-eminent professional body for taxation, has a leading role to play in the changes now taking place in tax administration and policy.
“In particular I am keen to help our members and the public in preparing for and integrating themselves into the developing digital economy, which has taken on even more prominence with COVID-19.”
He added: “Additionally, I am keen to contribute to the debate on tax reform, including the transition towards sustainable taxation, as the country and the world look towards and commit to a net zero carbon future.”
