Squire Patton Boggs has hired Tom Durrant, head of Gateley’s national Corporate practice, as a partner in its Birmingham office.

The appointment of Durrant marks another “significant investment” in Squire Patton Boggs’ global private equity practice.

He will lead the firm’s corporate practice in its Birmingham office and play a “key role” in the ongoing expansion of the UK and international cross-border corporate and private equity (PE) transactional work.

Durrant is a corporate lawyer focused on cross-border acquisitions and disposals, private equity and venture capital transactions. He advises international and UK corporates, financial institutions, management teams and entrepreneurs across a wide variety of industry sectors.

Jonathan Jones, European managing partner, said: “We’re delighted Tom is joining us in Birmingham.  He is a respected and talented private equity lawyer, well known to our team and who knows our firm from old.  Tom trained and qualified with us and it’s great to have him back here, joining a global, dynamic team of practitioners also at the top of their game.

“As we’ve invested in the firm over the past few years, with internal promotions and a series of major lateral and team hires in Paris, Madrid, Milan, London, Leeds and Manchester, we have seen our strategy play out in terms of stronger client relationships, more new business opportunities, and an enhanced collaborative culture.”

Durrant added: “Squire Patton Boggs has all the commercial flair and ambition of a successful global firm, whilst retaining strong regional ties and acute awareness of the local market.  The range and depth of the work they do for PE and corporate clients is hugely impressive and I look forward to contributing to the firm’s continued growth.”

The firm’s global private equity practice comprises specialist corporate lawyers, experienced in advising private equity and venture capital investors, investee companies and management teams.
