The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) has welcomed the appointment of Mel Stride, MP for Central Devon, as the new chair of the Treasury Select Committee.

Stride was elected by his fellow MPs yesterday (23 October) and the trade association has now “backed him for success”.

Stride said: “The confidence that the House has shown in me I will reciprocate in terms of chairing that committee with the utmost fairness and could I finally say that at a time of great sound and fury in this chamber, I hope that our committee now brings forward some illumination and light.”

Phil Hall, AAT head of public affairs and public policy, added: “AAT is pleased that Mel Stride has been elected Chair of the Treasury Select Committee and is confident he will prove successful given his wealth of relevant experience, not least as a Treasury Minister.

“I’m sure that Mel will prove more than capable of holding the department, and Government, to account and AAT looks forward to working with him in the months and years ahead.”
