Accounting and business advisory firm Hurst has expanded its tax team with two senior appointments as demand grows across its national client base.

Private client specialist Neelum Ali has joined as a senior manager from Forvis Mazars, while Kevin Martin has been appointed a senior manager in the corporate tax compliance division after moving from TLP Consulting.

Ali spent 10 years at Forvis Mazars, where she led a healthcare private client team. Her earlier roles include positions at CLB Coopers and Royce Peeling Green, and work as a tax adviser at the Inland Revenue, now HMRC. She will oversee Hurst’s personal tax compliance function and support its expanding private client advisory work.

Martin was previously a corporate tax manager at TLP Consulting, which he joined in 2014 from ClearSky Accounting. He also worked in industry as a tax accountant for Sabre Europe Management Services, responsible for corporate tax compliance and reporting for the lastminute.com group. His earlier experience includes roles at Mazars, PwC and Royce Peeling Green, following an initial post as a revenue officer at the Inland Revenue.

Head of tax Liz Gallagher said: “Demand for our newer tax service lines is accelerating, particularly in private client advisory and corporate tax compliance. Bringing in Neelum and Kevin as senior managers strengthens both areas and enhances our offering to a growing national client base.

“Neelum adds leadership and sector expertise from her decade at Forvis Mazars to oversee personal tax compliance, and Kevin deepens our corporate compliance team so we can scale without compromising on quality.”

Hurst advises owner-managed businesses, private equity-backed enterprises and UK subsidiaries of overseas parent companies. Clients include S.J.M Concerts, Kinaxia Logistics, M and I Materials, Beechfield Brands, Duerr’s, Oliver Valves, Lancashire County Cricket Club, Krones UK, Creamline Dairies, Scapa Group and Hyde Group..

Earlier this year, the firm set out plans to double in size by 2028 to become a £20m-turnover practice, supported by recruitment, new service lines and investment in technology. It has also been recognised by Great Place to Work as one of the UK’s leading consulting and professional services workplaces.
