Scottish accountancy firm Wbg has appointed Benny Higgins, former chief executive of Tesco Bank, as chairman.
Higgins, who currently chairs investment firm N4 Partners, replaces Lorna Jack at the helm of the Glasgow-based company.
N4 Partners became Wbg’s majority shareholder last year following a seven-figure investment.
Jack, the former chief executive of the Law Society of Scotland and current chair of Highlands and Islands Airports, will remain involved as a member of N4’s advisory board.
During her tenure, she oversaw a period of expansion, including a series of acquisitions, a rebrand and the establishment of a wider office network.
Meanwhile, Higgins has held senior roles at several major financial institutions, including Standard Life, Royal Bank of Scotland and HBOS.
He served as chief executive of Tesco Bank from 2008 to 2018, and has twice been appointed strategic adviser to the first minister of Scotland, including to chair the government’s post-pandemic economic recovery group.
Allan Dowie, Wbg chief executive, said: “Lorna has done a tremendous job overseeing Wbg’s growth to date and I thank her for her valuable contribution in putting the building blocks in place for the firm.
“Benny is taking over at a very exciting time as we embark on the next phase of our journey, and he will be instrumental in helping us realise our ambitious targets on the next phase of our growth strategy.”
Commenting on his new role, Higgins added: “Having served as chairman of N4 for some years now, I’m delighted to take on the same role at Wbg, to continue the track record of growth overseen by Lorna in that role and to spearhead the next phase of the firm’s strategic development to realise its growth ambitions.
“Our targets are to grow our fee income to £30m in three years and £50m in five years to achieve a ranking in the top 30 UK full-service professional services firms.”
