KPMG has announced the appointment of Huw Evans as the firm’s incoming head of insurance in the UK, effective from April 2024.

Evans will be succeeding Trevor Jones in the role, following his decision to retire from the group.

Evans will work alongside Jones until his retirement to ensure a smooth transition.

Prior to joining KPMG in January 2022 as a partner in its insurance practice, Evans held the position of director general at the Association of British Insurers (ABI). During his time at the ABI, he represented the industry through Brexit, the government’s Solvency II proposals, pension freedoms and the Covid-19 pandemic.

Earlier in his career, Evans also served as a special adviser to Prime Minister Tony Blair and Home Secretary David Blunkett, as well as spent time in the banking sector.

Karim Haji, global and UK head of financial services at KPMG, said: “Huw has had a notable career and we are all thrilled to have him in our team. He has brought a wealth of insights and expertise to our practice and is well respected by all corners of the insurance market.

“Huw is without doubt the best person to continue Trevor’s legacy, ensuring we develop further our market-leading practice.”

Evans added: ‘It is a privilege to take on this role and have the opportunity to contribute further to the future of the insurance and long-term savings market. The UK insurance sector has seen significant transformation over the last few years, driven by regulation, climate change, new technology and cost pressures, to name just a few.

“KPMG has world class expertise and talent in its insurance practice with an important role to play in helping the market to be the best it can be.”
