Evelyn Partners has recently been appointed as joint administrators of the London-based artisan craft brewery Brew by Numbers which has been ranked as one of the Top 100 Breweries in The World by RateBeer.

Brew by Numbers is well-established, operating as a microbrewery with a taproom in London and an e-commerce sales channel. Founded in 2011, the original brewery and taproom opened in Enid Street, at the heart of the popular ‘Bermondsey Beer Mile’.

In 2021 they moved their main production to a new brewery in Morden Wharf, Greenwich and added a 400-person capacity taproom on the banks of the River Thames.

Despite developing a loyal following from craft beer fans, Brew by Numbers has faced difficult trading conditions in recent years due to a combination of the Covid-19 pandemic and escalating prices.

The brewery will remain trading while the Joint Administrators conduct a sale process of the business.

Finbarr O’Connell, partner at Evelyn Partners and one of the joint administrators of Brew by Numbers, said: “Brew by Numbers is renowned for their offerings of high-quality and distinctive beers. As joint administrators, our primary objective is to preserve the company’s operations and ensure the continuity of employment for its dedicated workforce.

“We remain committed to overseeing the operations of Brew by Numbers whilst conducting a sale process to pursue a resolution that maximises value and ensures the continued success of the business.”

Colin Hardman, partner at Evelyn Partners and one of the joint administrators said: “Craft breweries are increasingly finding that they need to reassess their pricing strategies and explore avenues for improving cost efficiencies without compromising the quality that sets them apart.

“Collaborations and partnerships within the industry could provide opportunities for mutual growth and help address the financial challenges collectively. This brewery is very popular amongst its customers, as such we anticipate a lot of interest in acquiring this iconic brand.”
