Northern accountancy firm BHP has appointed Paul Byrne as commercial finance director, covering its Sheffield and Chesterfield offices.

The strategic hire reinforces BHP’s commitment to delivering specialist, trusted and supportive advice to clients across South Yorkshire, particularly in the area of business finance.

The firm said Byrne brings with him over 20 years of experience in the banking sector having held senior roles at HSBC, RBS and most recently PEAC UK Ltd, a US private credit funder. His expertise lies in asset and equipment finance, making him a valuable addition to BHP’s growing Commercial Finance team.

In his new role, he will focus on supporting businesses in the region with tailored finance solutions and helping them access the funding they need to grow and thrive.

Commenting on his appointment, Byrne said: “I’m excited to have joined the commercial finance team at BHP, a well-known leading firm in the region. I look forward to leveraging my experience to support our clients as they continue to navigate the challenging economic landscape, both in the UK and overseas, and to contribute to our continued growth.”

The appointment marks a further step in BHP’s strategy to expand its reach and enhance its service offering in South Yorkshire and comes as part of its broader growth strategy.

The firm has welcomed nine new starters so far in 2025, reflecting its commitment to investing in top talent to support its clients. This includes the appointment of Byrne’s new colleague, commercial finance director Damian Hughes, part of the wider team led by Dan Summerfield.
