A director at Duncan and Toplis has been appointed chair of the ICAEW Ethics Advisory Committee (EAC).

Stuart Brown joined the EAC in 2021 and became vice-chair in 2024. He will now serve as chair for two years until June 2027.

The EAC is responsible for overseeing ICAEW’s role in providing ethical advice and support to its members, students and affiliates. The committee responds to enquiries regarding ethical and anti-money laundering issues by providing high-quality, free and confidential advice to members or their representatives.

It also helps to develop new guidance for the accountancy profession, as well as taking part in consultations and providing feedback to other committees.

Commenting on his appointment, Brown said: “After being a part of the Committee for the last four years, it’s an honour to be appointed as chair, and I’m excited to drive it forward over the next two years.

“Ethics plays such a huge role in the accountancy profession, and it’s something that has attracted a lot of attention over recent years, so I’m proud to play my part in improving the industry and making a positive change.”

Damon Brain, CEO of Duncan and Toplis, added: “I’d like to congratulate Stuart on his appointment – he has been involved with the committee for many years now and it’s great to see his passion for maintaining and improving ethical standards.

“At Duncan and Toplis, we pride ourselves on upholding the highest standards of ethics and professionalism, and having Stuart’s expertise only enhances our ability to do this. I’m sure Stuart will make an excellent chair and I look forward to seeing the positive impact that the EAC will have on the ICAEW’s members, students and the wider industry under his charge.”
