Mid-tier accounting and advisory firm Gerald Edelman has announced its certification as a B Corporation.
Verified by B Lab, the not-for-profit behind the B Corp movement, the achievement demonstrates that Gerald Edelman meets “high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability alongside a commitment to goals beyond shareholder value”.
B Corp Certification assesses the entirety of a business’ operations and currently covers five main impact areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers.
The certification process is rigorous, with companies required to reach a score of 80 points in the B Impact Assessment while providing evidence of responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity, and corporate transparency.
A business must also legally embed their commitment to purpose as well as profit in their company articles.
Gerald Edelman is now part of a growing community of over 8,000 businesses globally that have certified as B Corps.
Gerald Edelman has already been making significant strides in corporate responsibility and sustainability. For instance:
- The Gerald Edelman Foundation Committee supports young people in London, a core mission of the Firm. Currently, Gerald Edelman supports London Youth as its chosen charity.
- A dedicated Mental Health Committee focuses on employee wellbeing, with five fully trained Mental Health First Aiders.
- The Sustainability Committee has signed up for science-based targets and has already met its scope two emissions target.
- The annual publication of an ESG report demonstrates commitment to transparency.
- Ongoing initiatives to have a positive impact on people, planet, community, and clients.
Carl Lundberg, CEO at Gerald Edelman, said: “We achieved B Corp certification with a score of 84.5 points. B Corp was a natural next step for our firm as it aligns perfectly with our core values and long-standing commitment to our clients, employees, and communities. The certification validates our efforts so far to create a positive impact beyond profit and reinforces our dedication to responsible and sustainable business practices.”
Chris Turner, executive director of B Lab UK, added: “We are delighted to welcome Gerald Edelman to the B Corp community. This is a movement of companies that are committed to changing how business operates and believe business really can be a force for good. We know that Gerald Edelman is going to be a fantastic addition to the community and will continue driving the conversation forward.”
