Interpath Advisory appoints automotive special adviser

Ian Harnett spent 38 years with Jaguar Land Rover before retiring in 2020 from the business where he was executive director for human resources and global purchasing

Interpath Advisory has announced the appointment of automotive industry veteran Ian Harnett as a special adviser for the firm.

Harnett spent 38 years with Jaguar Land Rover before retiring in 2020 from the business where he was executive director for human resources and global purchasing and served on the main board.

During his career that has spanned nearly four decades, he has built considerable experience in the demands of automotive vehicle production, its supply chain complexities, people management, and developing new automotive production facilities both in the UK and overseas.

He joined British Leyland in 1982 and went on to become instrumental in the long-term sustainable growth of the Jaguar Land Rover business, including more than doubling its workforce and tripling revenues over a decade. He played a critical role in developing JLR’s focus on its UK supplier base during its period of strong growth.

During his time with JLR, he was responsible for the transition team as JLR was divested from Ford Motor Company. Ian is currently Chairman of Warwick Acoustics Limited.

In his new role at Interpath Advisory, he will work as part of Interpath’s Advisory committee to support the firm in the automotive sector. His experience, insight, and expertise will support the firm’s automotive team, led by Lee Swinerd, as it engages with the sector across deals, advisory, and restructuring engagements.

Regarding his appointment, Harnett said: “The team at Interpath has already built an impressive track record working within the automotive sector across its supply chain and with major OEMs. The ambition to further deepen that expertise for clients is incredibly exciting and I look forward to joining Interpath as we work together to help clients navigate the era-defining transition from ICE to EVs.”

Lee Swinerd, director and head of automotive at Interpath Advisory, added: “Ian has been one of the most instrumental figures in the development of the UK automotive industry. His work with JLR in transforming the nation’s largest car manufacturer is remarkable. We’re thrilled to have him on board to bring that experience to bear and add his perspective to our conversations with clients as they meet the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.”

Mark Raddan, CEO of Interpath Advisory, said: “Having worked with Ian in his former capacity at JLR, I am extremely pleased that he is joining our ever-growing team and we will be able to benefit from his years of experience and knowledge to help expand and further develop our offering in the automotive sector.”
