Saffery Champness has announced the appointment of Shirley McIntosh MBE as a partner in the Inverness office.

McIntosh joins Saffery Champness from a large accountancy firm, where she was a partner and formerly head of tax for Scotland and Northern Ireland.

She brings more than three decades of experience advising high-net-worth clients, landed estates, and rural businesses across Scotland and elsewhere on their tax affairs. She qualified as a chartered accountant in 1990 and since then has worked for major international accounting firms, including a Big Four firm.

Alongside this, McIntosh also pursued a successful career in sport, winning gold and silver medals in shooting at the 1994 Commonwealth Games.

Matthew Burton, managing partner, said: “Welcoming an advisor of Shirley’s talent and reputation is a landmark moment for our team in Inverness, building on a legacy of providing best-in-class tax advice and services to our unique and diverse client base in the region. This includes some of the largest, most complex and prestigious landed estates and rural businesses in the country.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to draw on Shirley’s unique insight and experience of this important market, as well as her renowned technical expertise and knowledge, to continue delivering for our clients and helping them navigate what promises to be a challenging tax and inflationary environment over the coming years.”

McIntosh added: “Saffery Champness has a strong connection with the Highlands and its unique estates and businesses, built across many years of outstanding client service. I am very much looking forward to continuing this work as part of the team in Inverness.

“I hope to bring my own perspective on this important market, developed over decades of advising individuals and businesses in Scotland on their tax affairs. I am excited at the prospect of working alongside the extraordinary talent in the firm’s Inverness office, as well as in the wider team nationally and internationally.”
