BDO has appointed Matt Crane as its new national head of natural resources and energy.

Crane, who started as a senior audit manager in the firm’s Sydney Office in 2008, has been a partner in the UK since 2018.

He takes the reins from Louise Sayers, who is stepping aside after four years in the role.

Matt will be based out of BDO’s London office and will lead more than 120 UK partners and employees.

With more than 15 years’ experience dealing with companies across oil and gas, mining, renewables and agribusiness sectors, he will continue to work with businesses locally and globally.

He said: “Our team at BDO audits more FTSE and AIM listed natural resources companies in the UK than any other firm. We have strong relationships across all resource sectors, which is something we’re all extremely proud of.

“In the months and years ahead, we will focus on supporting businesses as they transition to renewable energy, address energy prices, and implement new technologies to drive efficiencies.”

He added: “I look forward to building our capabilities in line with the evolving needs of audited entities and global shifts in energy and resource markets.”
