The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) has elected Alfred Ramosedi as its 93rd president, with the South African finance executive also taking on the role of co-chair of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants.

Elected at the institute’s annual general meeting in London, Ramosedi will serve alongside association chair Jan Lewis to help lead the global accounting profession through the international alliance between CIMA and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Matthew Hansard was also elected deputy president.

Ramosedi brings more than 30 years of experience in financial services, having held senior leadership positions at Nedbank, Absa Bank and African Bank before becoming chief executive of Bayport Financial Services South Africa in 2017.

A longstanding CIMA volunteer, Ramosedi has supported the institute for almost three decades. Since first becoming involved in 1998, he has served as chairman of the Southern Africa regional board and as a member of the global council. He was awarded the institute’s silver medal in 2013 and returned to the council in 2023.

Ramosedi said: “The choices we make today, how we earn trust, embrace technology, lead through uncertainty and complexity and invest in the next generation, will shape the future of finance and accounting. If we get those choices right, we will not simply keep pace with change; we will define it.

“I take on this role with humility and a strong sense of responsibility. I am committed to serving our members, students and the wider profession and working with them to create a future grounded in trust, innovation and opportunity.”
