Wales accountancy firm Ashmole and Co has appointed six new trainees as part of its apprenticeship scheme, including a youth international cricketer from Carmarthenshire.

The group, which has offices across south and mid Wales, said the new recruits had joined through its initiative to support young talent and local employment.

Among them is Charlie Bujega, from St Clears, who has joined the firm’s Haverfordwest office.

Bujega plays cricket for Wales and Glamorgan under-18s, as well as for Ammanford Cricket Club.

He studied at Ysgol Dyffryn Taf in Whitland and began his finance career through an apprenticeship with Dyfed-Powys Police in Carmarthen, where he started working towards his Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualifications.

As a trainee accountant, Bujega is involved in preparing accounts, VAT and tax returns for a range of clients including sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.

Ashmole and Co plans to continue its apprenticeship scheme in 2026 and welcomes applications from school leavers, college and university graduates, or those seeking a new career path. Successful candidates are offered a permanent contract and a fully-funded training package alongside a basic salary.

William Hughes, partner at Ashmole and Co in Haverfordwest and Tenby, said: “We are bowled over that Charlie has joined our team. It is important as a profession that we help nurture the next generation of professional accountants. Local talented trainees are the lifeblood for the future success of our firm. By hiring locally, we can help build a more robust and resilient economy.”

Bujega added: “I am enjoying the role of trainee accountant as I need to be able to think outside the box and be adaptive to different scenarios depending on the type of client I am working for. It is very rewarding when I help complete a set of accounts for a client.”
