Moore Kingston Smith has announced the appointment of Alex Horton as a partner to its media team.

Horton brings over 12 years’ experience in guiding individuals and owner-managed businesses in the entertainment industry.

He advises clients across film, TV and theatre regarding technical tax issues such as creative industry tax relief claims and a variety of HMRC tax inquiries.

Providing tailored advice around tax rules unique to the industry, the firm said Horton is “adept” at advising actors, directors, writers, composers, social media influencers and production companies.

His expertise in cross-border tax matters is supported by experience working with Los Angeles-based firms, overseeing US filing obligations and tax planning for UK clients.

Having worked his way up to partner at a specialist media and entertainment firm, Horton’s career has been entirely dedicated to the sector.

He has also advised owner-managed businesses on corporate sales and provided back catalogue valuations for musical composers and authors.

Horton said: “It’s fantastic to join Moore Kingston Smith’s dynamic and respected media team. I’m excited to be part of the collaborative culture here – it’s the key to innovation and the development of quality solutions. I look forward to using my expertise to help our clients navigate the pressures they face and reach their goals in the evolving entertainment space.”

Maureen Penfold, managing partner said: “I’m delighted to welcome Alex to our growing firm, as we continue to build our holistic suite of services to support the needs of media professionals and businesses. Alex’s wide-ranging experience further strengthens our team of experts and the solutions they devise, while complementing our passion for providing a high-quality service for all our clients.”
