BDO UK has announced it will merge with BDO Ireland after partners from both firms voted in favour of consolidation.

The move will unite BDO’s Irish offices in Dublin and Limerick with the UK firm’s 17 locations.

The expanded group will stay in the US$11bn [£8.4bn] BDO International network, which extends across 169 counties and territories and employs more than 95,000 people in 870 offices.

The merger is set to take effect in Spring 2026, subject to regulatory approval.

BDO said it will create a business with revenues of approximately £1.1bn (€1.26bn) and 8,500 employees, and that the enlarged firm will have around 550 partners.

The firm added that the merger will increase BDO’s offering across its four primary service lines (Audit, Tax, Deals and Consulting, Risk and Outsourcing) and in several growth sectors across the UK and Irish economies.

It added that it caters to the “constantly changing” demands of the market, providing stronger cross-border ties and consistency of service to clients and greater capacity to invest in staff, technology and innovation.

The firm said its ‘in-network’ merger deal is a major milestone for both businesses, solidifying BDO as one of the “largest accountancy firms in Europe focused on the entrepreneurial, growing and ambitious mid-market”.

BDO UK and its Irish counterpart first revealed they were discussing a possible tie-up in November 2025.

Mark Shaw, managing partner at BDO UK, said: “Partners in both the UK and Ireland have been clear in their support. They are excited about the next phase of our growth story and are pleased to have reached this important stage in the deal.

“This is a merger built on a foundation of shared culture, with mutual respect and commitment to our people, to quality and the consistency of service which our client heartland of entrepreneurial, growing and ambitious businesses requires. We look forward to working, thriving and winning together.”

Brian McEnery, managing partner at BDO Ireland, added: “We have worked side-by-side for decades on cross-border engagements, client collaborations and talent exchanges. We know each other well and this shared history gives us confidence that we can build something even stronger together.”
