Johnston Carmichael has made eight senior appointments across its offices as part of its latest promotion round, ahead of its 90th anniversary in 2026.

The independent accountancy and business advisory firm has promoted two partners and six directors among 88 appointments confirmed in December. The changes follow a year of 181 promotions across the business.

In Glasgow, audit specialist Thuy Vo has become audit partner within the financial services team, while corporate finance specialist Gavin Weanie has been promoted to partner.

Vo has more than 20 years’ experience in investment management, including audit work for public interest entities and private equity funds. Weanie has over a decade of mergers and acquisitions experience and joined the firm in 2019 after seven years at a Big Four firm.

Additionally, new directors include Dean Moore in audit and Sarah Bedford in restructuring in Glasgow; Alison Cooper in business support in Inverness; Nicola Sargeant in private client tax in Forfar; Stephanie Shand in audit in Elgin; and James Hurst in VAT.

According to the firm, the appointments strengthen teams across key service areas.

Johnston Carmichael is accredited as a Great Place to Work and is listed in the 2025 Best Workplaces for Development, with initiatives such as the JC Impact Fund and in-house awards used to support staff development.

Lynne Walker, chief executive, said: “We’re proud to celebrate these senior appointments and the many others across our business this year. Our people are what make Johnston Carmichael the firm it is today, and these promotions reflect the depth of talent, expertise and ambition we’re building for the future.

“As we approach our 90th anniversary, we remain focused on providing a platform where our people can build great careers, develop their leadership skills, and make a real difference for our clients and communities.”

Mark Houston, senior partner and chair, added: “Thuy, Gavin and our new directors embody the values and ambition that define Johnston Carmichael. Each has shown exceptional leadership, driving our firm forward through collaboration, quality, and care for our clients and communities. I congratulate all those who have been promoted on this well-deserved recognition.”
