ForrestBrown has announced the promotion of R&D tax specialist Katy Long to director, recognising her “technical excellence, leadership and contribution to the firm’s continued growth”.

Long joined ForrestBrown in 2019 after beginning her career with a Big Four firm and has been instrumental in helping businesses navigate the evolving R&D tax landscape and recent reforms including the introduction of the merged scheme.

She now oversees more than 40 specialists delivering expert R&D tax relief advice to established SMEs and major corporations.

Alongside her client work, Long is a respected technical authority in the R&D tax sector. She has authored the R&D tax relief chapter of Tolley’s Tax Planning for the past two years and sat on the CBI’s Innovation Tax Working Group.

Sara Brigden, managing director at ForrestBrown, said: “Katy combines deep technical expertise with a real passion for helping clients succeed. Over the past few years, she has played a key role in shaping ForrestBrown’s approach during a period of significant change in the R&D tax landscape. Her energy, positivity, and dedication to excellence perfectly reflect ForrestBrown’s values and make her a real asset to our leadership team.”

Long added: “Helping innovative businesses access the funding they need to grow is incredibly rewarding, particularly as companies now grapple with the technicalities of recent R&D policy reforms. I’m excited to continue working with our clients to navigate these changes and to contribute to ForrestBrown’s next chapter of growth, supporting both our clients and colleagues along the way.”
