BK Plus has appointed Brett Barton as a licensed insolvency practitioner, bolstering its national restructuring and insolvency team.

Barton brings more than 30 years of experience in business recovery and insolvency, including senior roles at accountancy firms and restructuring specialists. He most recently founded and led BLB Advisory.

He will be based in the Midlands and will work with teams across the UK to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) facing financial challenges.

Barton has experience in both solvent and insolvent liquidations, administrations, company voluntary liquidations, and turnaround advisory, with a focus on preserving brand value and supporting owner-managed businesses.

Barton’s arrival follows the recent appointment of Angela Paterson in Dundee and forms part of wider plans to expand the restructuring team.

Barton said: “The culture here prioritises quality, support, and long-term relationships, not just one-off transactions. That’s how I’ve always worked. I’ve known Richard and Kim for many years, and we’ve worked together on joint cases going back to 2006. Joining BK Plus felt like a natural next step.”

Richard Tonks, partner and head of restructuring and insolvency, added: “Brett brings a wealth of experience, a calm and steady approach, and a client-first mindset that aligns perfectly with how we support businesses at BK Plus.”
