Grant Thornton UK has strengthened its Private Tax team in Birmingham following the appointment of Billy Chiverton and Jon Basten as directors.
The firm said the pair will play a “pivotal role” in delivering the Private Tax team’s growth plans, working alongside partners Dan Hartland and Sue Knight to continue building and developing the firm’s tax advisory offering.
With the recruitment of Chiverton, the team is now 16-strong, with plans to continue expanding in 2024 and beyond.
Basten has 12 years’ experience in tax, advising on private business acquisitions and disposals, corporate restructuring and succession planning. He will lead the Private Tax team’s transactional tax offering, focused on supporting vendors prepare for and then successfully negotiate exit events.
Chiverton has 13 years’ experience working with privately owned businesses and their stakeholders, supporting clients through key commercial and personal milestones, from starting new ventures right through to transition of wealth to the next generation. He has spent most of his career at Grant Thornton and returns to the firm after some time at a large accounting firm.
Commenting on his return, Chiverton said: “Having very much enjoyed my time with Grant Thornton previously, the opportunity to rejoin the team was too good to pass by.
