Accountants, business and financial advisers, Armstrong Watson has promoted Martin Johnston to audit and assurance partner.

Johnston joined Armstrong Watson’s Glasgow team in 2020 as audit and assurance director and since then has played a “pivotal” role in growing the business in the city and also the wider Scottish market.

It said he has a “strong reputation and extensive experience” of managing diverse and complex portfolios of clients, across a wide range of sectors.

Prior to joining Armstrong Watson, Johnston was a senior manager at KPMG, having previously worked for both EY and PKF (now part of BDO) earlier in his career.

Johnston’s promotion continues Armstrong Watson’s investment in its audit and assurance services and follows the appointment of audit and assurance director Huw Nicholls at the firm’s Leeds office.

It also comes as Stewart Crockett joins the business as managing director of Armstrong Watson Financial Planning and Brian Rudkin joins as employment tax partner, with both also being based in Glasgow.

Commenting on his promotion Johnston said: “I am thoroughly delighted to be appointed partner and proud to be part of the journey our Glasgow office has been on over the past few years, where we have gone from strength to strength. The breadth and depth of our service offering at Armstrong Watson has enabled us to cater for all our clients’ needs and be a key partner in their business.

“Looking ahead, I look forward to supporting and adding value to businesses across Glasgow and the wider Scottish market as we continue on our growth trajectory.”
