KPMG has announced the appointment of Peter Rothwell as its new UK head of banking.
Rothwell will take up the role on 1 April 2023 after the current UK head of banking Paula Smith retires. Smith was with the company for 10 years.
Currently a partner in KPMG’s risk consulting team, Rothwell joined the company in 2007 after a long career in industry.
Rothwell said: “I take on this role at a crucial time for the banking industry as regulators, customers and global markets all look to banks to provide stability through some significant macroeconomic uncertainties.
“Whilst our work to support banks is hugely varied, and often highly specialised, there’s one driving principle that I want to instil – how do we help banks to work better for the benefit of all? I’m excited about this next chapter in my career and I am privileged to lead such a talented team.”
Karim Haji, EMA and UK head of financial services, added: “We have an enormous wealth of talent in this firm, but Peter combines exceptional technical expertise, credibility and diplomacy. I’m delighted to have him as part of our leadership team.
“Paula certainly leaves big boots to fill. In her four years in the role, Paula has grown the banking practice and been a champion for diversity. We thank her for her immense contribution and congratulate Peter on his appointment.”
