HWB Accountants appoints associate director

His appointment makes Tom Young one of two associate directors at HWB, along with tax specialist, Gemma Hedges

HWB Accountants based in Hampshire has announced the appointment of Tom Young, the firm’s former business adviser, to the role of associate director. This is reportedly the firm’s second senior promotion in two months.

It is reported that this move is designed to support “strategic” growth plans at the firm.

Young joined the Chandler’s Ford-based firm as a trainee in 2007 and is said to have achieved his chartered qualification in 2012. Since being promoted to a business adviser in 2014, he has been responsible for managing a wide portfolio of clients, ranging from small business to large audit clients with a focus on the property sector.

While taking on a host of new responsibilities in his new role, Young will continue with the property specialism of his client-facing work. As well as his client work, he provides team leadership including appraisals and career development for colleagues who report directly to him.

His appointment makes Young one of two associate directors at HWB, along with tax specialist, Gemma Hedges. Young’s promotion also follows that of James Flood who joined the HWB board in June 2022 after two years as an associate director, having worked his way up since joining from college.

Young said: “HWB is a great firm to work for as it provides you with experience in all aspects of the accountancy sector. There is a great team ethic among the firm and a wealth of experience which allows you to challenge yourself, knowing there is always someone who will be there to assist.

“I enjoy both the client side and the team leader role. It’s so rewarding to support ambitious colleagues with their career development. I have been with the firm 15 years and have built great relationships with my colleagues and clients.”

He added: “I am excited to take the next step in my career, contributing towards the board’s decisions and future success of HWB.”

Geoff Rhodes, managing director of HWB, said: “We are expanding all the time and Tom’s promotion is another strategic move for us. It is a well-deserved reward for such a capable and dedicated team member.”
