French Duncan, an independent firm of chartered accountants and business advisors, has announced the promotion of Maria McConnell to partner at the group.

McConnell’s promotion brings the French Duncan’s total number of partners to 14 across its four offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Stirling, and Dumbarton.

Currently VAT director at the Scottish firm, French Duncan said that the promotion follows “significant growth” in its tax operations over the past six years.

McConnell joined the firm in 2015 to lead its VAT team, and has since “driven a significant increase in VAT revenue” while expanding the team by 200%.

She brings two decades of experience to the role, having commenced her career in HMRC in the Thames Valley.

Prior to joining French Duncan, McConnell also specialised in VAT at a Big Four practice, before joining PKF and then BDO as VAT manager following the firms’ 2013 merger.

Providing expertise across all sectors, McConnell specialises in the charity and not-for-profit, manufacturing, leisure, international business, and renewable energy industries.
