Grant Thornton names Paul Rao as new head of not for profit

Rao is a member of the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors’ (IIA) technical guidance working group and is also deputy chair of the North West Committee at the IIA

Grant Thornton UK LLP has appointed Paul Rao as its new head of not for profit.

Rao has been with Grant Thornton for seven years, having joined from Mazars in 2014. He leads the firm’s charity and wider not for profit business risk services practice, delivering internal audit, risk management and governance service.

He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors’ (IIA) technical guidance working group and is also deputy chair of the North West Committee at the IIA.

In addition, Rao is also deputy chair of the internal audit editorial board at the Chartered Institute of Public Finance Association (CIPFA).

Rao said: “I’m thrilled to take on this role and to continue to work with the wider NfP leadership team and dedicated, specialist teams.  We have some incredible people who are committed, passionate and enjoy going above and beyond to support our clients.

“Across the UK, charities are increasingly expected to deliver more, while at the same time are facing cuts in government funding and voluntary giving whilst navigating an increasingly complex regulatory environment.”

He added: “The last year has brought further challenge with the impact of the pandemic. I’m looking forward to working with all of our amazing people to continue to assist our clients through these challenging times”.
