Tobacco company Imperial Brands has announced Oliver Tant has decided to retire as chief financial officer.

According to the company, Tant will leave the company once a “suitable” successor is found.

Tant has held  a number of senior positions in a 32-year career at KPMG, including global managing director financial advisory and private equity division and Head of UK Audit.

He was appointed to the Imperial board of directors in October 2013 and became chief financial officer in November 2013.

CEO Stefan Bomhard and the board are actively progressing an external search for a successor and are focused on recruiting a high-calibre individual to support Bomhard in “strengthening performance and creating long-term value for stakeholders”.

Chair Therese Esperdy said: “On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Oliver for the contribution he has made during his seven years with Imperial.”
