Scottish accountancy firm Wbg has appointed Garry Clarke as chief financial officer to help deliver its growth strategy.

Clarke, a chartered accountant, was previously finance director and chief operating officer at Localist, formerly Enterprise Foods.

He has also held senior roles including financial controller at Hewden, finance director at Clyde Union SPX and group financial controller at Clyde Blowers Capital.

His appointment follows the arrival of former Tesco Bank chief executive Benny Higgins as Wbg’s chairman two weeks ago.

Clarke succeeds Yvonne Kemp, who will work with Wbg shareholder N4 Partners across several investments.

Wbg employs 190 staff across six offices, serving more than 10,000 clients. About 70% of its clients are in Scotland, with the remainder in the rest of the UK.

Allan Dowie, Wbg’s chief executive, said: “His wealth of experience and expertise across private equity and service businesses will prove invaluable to helping the firm realise its growth targets over the years ahead.”

Clarke added: “I’m very pleased to join with Allan and the rest of the team at Wbg to play a part in bringing to fruition their bold plans for expansion.

“Having been impressed by the pace of transformation that Wbg has undergone over recent years, I’m greatly looking forward to drive that transformation further to realise its objective of growing its fee income to £30m in three years and £50m in five years to achieve a ranking in the top 30 UK full-service professional services firms.”
