Mercer and Hole has announced the appointment of Jo Bateson as partner.

She returns to Mercer and Hole’s private client practice having trained at the firm and worked as a tax adviser until 2005.

Bateson is widely regarded as one of the UK’s “leading” private client tax advisers, joining KPMG in 2005 as a tax consultant, rapidly rising to partner in 2014 and leading its London family office and private client practice between 2017 and 2023.

She will remain a committee member of the UK Business Angel Association and a board member of Philanthropy Impact. She is also an active member of various female founder committees and a judge on the 2024 PAM Awards.

Mercer and Hole has 24 partners and over 250 staff across its offices in London, Milton Keynes, St Albans and Rickmansworth.

Bateson said: “The approach and culture at Mercer and Hole stands apart from the UK accounting giants. The firm is nimble and agile and can invest the time and energy that entrepreneurs, family offices and family businesses need.

“I am excited to return to the firm where I started my career. The firm has a great pool of talent across its offices, terrific clients and a diverse private client partner group. I am looking forward to supporting the continued growth of Mercer & Hole and developing further its expertise in acting for female founders and leaders in family offices and family-owned businesses as well as devoting time to my passions of tax policy and philanthropy.”

Paul Maberly, managing partner at Mercer and Hole, added: “Our firm has a very strong employer brand with experienced talent often choosing to return to Mercer & Hole to build a fulfilling career whilst acting for interesting and ambitious businesses and individuals.

“We are thrilled by Jo’s decision to rejoin the firm. Her experience and expertise – and standing in the private wealth and family business communities – is second to none. She will be a huge asset to the firm and its clients, and we are all looking forward to working once again with her.”
