Accountancy group Azets has acquired Ensors, one of East Anglia’s oldest chartered accountancy firms, for an undisclosed sum and marks its entry into the region.

Ensors, established more than 130 years ago, employs more than 300 staff across offices in Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge, Huntingdon, Ipswich, Norwich and Saxmundham. It provides audit, tax, corporate finance, business recovery and forensic accounting services.

Azets said clients would continue to work with the same teams while also gaining access to wider expertise and services across the international group. The acquisition is expected to provide a platform for further investment, recruitment and acquisitions in East Anglia.

Ensors will operate under its existing brand, endorsed as part of Azets, for around 12 months during a phased integration. A dedicated leadership team has been created, led by David Scrivener as regional managing director for the East.

Scrivener said: “This is a proud and exciting moment for Ensors. We’ve built a strong and trusted business by focusing on our people, our clients, and our communities. Joining Azets marks the next phase of our growth, enabling us to offer even more to the clients we serve and the people we employ.”

Peter Gallanagh, UK chief executive of Azets, added: “We are thrilled to welcome Ensors to Azets. The firm has an outstanding reputation in East Anglia, a talented team, and a strong track record of growth. This marks an important milestone as we expand into a new region of the UK.”
