Shipleys

Who are Shipleys?

Founded in 1936, Shipleys is a firm of chartered accountants and professional business advisors.

A self-described “medium sized accountancy firm”, Shipleys specialises in a number of niche markets, as well as offering its services to a wider range of sectors and areas.

The group is based out of two offices in London and Godalming, with Simon Robinson acting as its managing principal.

Moreover, as a member of AGN International, a global association of separate and independent accounting and advisory firms, Shipleys is able to support businesses with issues that arise worldwide.

What do Shipleys do?

Shipleys offers a range of accounting, audit, tax, and specialist services to both businesses and individuals.

The group’s service lines can be categorised as accounting and audit, online bookkeeping, business tax planning, corporate compliance, corporate finance, fee protection, forensic accounting, HR consultancy, international tax, inward investment, payroll, private clients, trusts and estates, VAT, and will-writing.

The company also works across a range of sectors, including charities and not-for-profit, creative industries, film, TV, and animation production, financial services, legal, owner-managed businesses, property and construction, renewable energy, and video game companies.

Recent financials

Shipleys saw its turnover rise over 3% year-on-year to £14.2m for the year ended 30 April 2020.

The group’s operating profit also climbed during the period, jumping from £4.2m in FY19 to £4.44m in FY20.

As for the group’s net current assets at the end of the period, they had risen from £3.64m to £3.92m.

In the news

Shipleys’ most recent piece of major news was its merger with the tax and accounting division of London-based Mariana UFP in March 2020. Through the deal, a small team of corporate and general tax specialists, led by Stephen Hanlon, joined the firm.

At the time, Robinson, managing principal at Shipleys, said: “We are delighted to welcome Stephen and colleagues into the fold. They will definitely add an extra depth and strength to our corporate advisory offering.”

Later in 2020, the group supported the Cheshire-based Clever Company, a designer and retailer of inflatable hot tubs and outdoor recreation equipment, in successfully securing a £2m fully unsecured loan.
